DESCRIPTION:\nSankofa’s 15th Annual International Day of Remembrance Cere
 mony\n\nThe Sankofa Projects hosts their 15th Annual International Day of 
 Remembrance at Outlook Beach at the Fort Monroe National Monument on Satur
 day\, June 13 starting at 11 am.\n\nRemembrance is a spiritual ceremony ho
 noring the millions of African men\, women\, and children who perished dur
 ing the Middle Passage of the Transatlantic Slave Trade\, which is referre
 d to as “the largest forced migration in history and undeniably one of t
 he most inhumane\,” according to the United Nations.\n\nFollowing in the
  tradition initiated by activist and scholar Toni Cade Bambara in 1989\, C
 hadra Pittman\, Founder & Executive Director of The Sankofa Projects\, bro
 ught Remembrance to Hampton in 2012\, to give voice to this untold chapter
  in the annals of slavery.\n\nThe day’s events will include an annual Ce
 remonial Remembrance Walk around the Tree of Remembrance\, a procession to
  the water\, poetry\, drumming and traditional songs and theatrical perfor
 mances. At 12 pm an International Libation will occur simultaneously acros
 s the United States.\n\nEvent partners are the Hampton History Museum\, Fo
 rt Monroe National Monument\, Fort Monroe at Old Point Comfort\, Visit Ham
 pton\, Virginia!\, Fort Monroe's Casemate Museum and Unity Commission.
